Using the latest drone technology, forgotten roads are again identified as they cross the mountain passes and drifts. A series of aerial photographs dating from the 1930’s was used to identify and pinpoint old highways. Google Earth’s overlay technology also made the creation of accurate maps of the original wagon trails possible. Lidar technology was used to determine old roads now destroyed by forestry and cycles of replanting.
The author debunks various previously held myths of the area. Among the conclusions is the contention that Pretoriuskop has been misnamed agter the Anglo-Boer War.
Forgotten tracks and trails is lavishly illustrated and takes the reader on a journey through time and points to places where history is still visible in the Mpumalanga landscape.
