What happens when a self-willed willow tree, a shy, mild-tempered apple tree, an irascible thorn tree and a loving baobab all end up in the same place? In the true South African children’s story Where trees belong by Ria Claassen (beautifully illustrated by Alzette Prins) these trees come to life. They do, however, have to face some challenges: the apple tree prefers the orchard and the people working there, whereas the willow dreams of a life on the banks of a river with the wind sweeping through its branches. The thorn tree and baobab also insist on having their own ways. But how should they go about pleasing everyone? Then the wise old owl, who has had enough of their bickering, devises a plan and even involves the birds of the veld to help solve their problems.
